What is CWMP? The Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan or CWMP is the town of Orleans’ four-phase process in which it will determine if changes in wastewater management are needed. The four phases are: Needs Assessment, Development and screening of Alternatives, Detailed Evaluation of Alternatives and Development of a Recommended Plan. Now in phase one, the town has found that in the next twenty years, possibly 70% of Orleans land parcels that exist today must have wastewater piped off their property to a treatment plant. How and when this will need to be accomplished is still unclear. What is clear, however, is that something must be done to protect the town’s bays and ponds in the not too distant future. |
